Dielectric Switches

 

G&W Electric Company has simplified the process of automated switching with a new SCADA-ready, three phase switch design. Part of their Trident solid dielectric switchgear line, the compact Trident-SR switch features integral, high speed magnetic actuator operation; load break or fault interrupter application; integral current and voltage sensing; and open platform circuitry for a wide selection of programmable automated controls. All components are internal to the switch housing making it ideal for submersible vault applications. Other features include maintenance-free operation, modular dead-front construction, compact footprint, time-proven EPOX solid insulation and ratings through 38kV, 12.5kA interrupting. The switches are designed and tested to applicable ANSI C37.71, ANSI C37.72, ANSI C37.60, IEEE 386, IEC 265, IEEE 592 and ANSI C119.4 standards. Trident switches are also available in single-phase and multi-way configurations through 27kV, 12.5kA sym. interrupting.

Phase Identification Instrument

 

Origo announced the PhaseID Dataloggers remote phase identification instruments for determining, indicating and datalogging the actual phase attribute and GPS location of any energized conductor in real time. The lineman model is an enhancement to the Origo PhaseID System available since 2003. It automates and datalogs PhaseID field probe measurements and their GPS location. The handheld model does not require a direct voltage contact and can be used by non-lineman to simultaneously obtain the phase attribute and GPS location of residential utility meters. This benefits smart meter installers by eliminating the need to carry a dedicated GPS instrument.

Ultracapacitor Cells

 

 

Ioxus, Inc., developers and manufacturers of ultracapacitor technologies for a wide range of energy storage markets, launched a new family of large cell prismatic electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLC) for transportation and utility applications. The 1,000-, 3,000- and 5,000-Farad (F) ultracapacitors are small in size with increased energy and power density. Ioxus EDLCs can be used as sole energy storage devices or can be combined with other types of energy storage devices, such as batteries or fuel cells, to meet the user power demand requirements. In this combination, ultracapacitors expand the system’s charge and discharge capabilities into shorter response times, extend the life of other, lower-power elements and open up new options for energy storage applications. Ioxus is working towards an AS9100 and ISO-9001 certification to adhere to the most rigorous quality standards.

Optical Solution

 

ADTRAN, a supplier of next-generation networking solutions, announced an IEEE 1613-compliant model of its OPTI-6100 Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP). Components of this OPTI-6100 platform have been designed and tested to comply with the IEEE 1613 “Standard Environmental and Testing Requirements for Communications Networking Devices in Electric Power Substations” standard. The additional compliance validation will expand applications for the OPTI-6100 in the utility industry. The OPTI-6100 is a high-density, compact, multi-service optical access and aggregation platform. It is perfectly suited for delivery of high density DS1s or E1s, Ethernet over SONET/PDH, Ethernet aggregation, TDM over pseudowire, multiple DS3/E3 delivery, customer premises service delivery and mobile backhaul. Services are configured via plug-in units, which are provisioned according to the service needs of individual locations. The flexibility of multiple plug-in units eliminates the need for separate network elements and minimizes CAPEX and OPEX by delivering TDM and Ethernet services from a single system. It supports existing OPTI-6100 interfaces and services and provides for reliable, carrier-class operation in harsh environments.

Ratchet-handle Cutter

 

The RIDGID 2-in-1 Close Quarters AUTOFEED Cutter combines the RIDGID Model 118 Close Quarters AUTOFEED Cutter with a ratchet handle that allows for easier cutting in tight, restricted spaces. The cutter can be used alone or with the ratchet handle. The handle, a light and ergonomic accessory, can be attached to the cutter and operated in ratchet steps as small as 10 degrees, allowing for fine indexing of the cutter to operate in tight spaces where the cutter cannot be rotated by hand. The RIDGID Model 118 Close Quarters AUTOFEED Cutter requires the operator to tighten the football-shaped knob only once and the spring-loaded cutter wheel will automatically cut. The cutter is adjustable from ¼-inches to 1¼-inches outer diameter. The 2-in-1 Close Quarters AUTOFEED Cutter is backed by the RIDGID lifetime warranty.

Circuit Breaker Line

 

Automation Systems Interconnect is pleased to announce the introduction of a brand new panel and screw mount circuit breaker line. These circuit breakers are UL489A and UL1077 recognized. These hydraulic magnetic circuit breakers are available in AC and DC trip curves. The hydraulic magnetic overload technology protects the circuit in both overload and short circuit. All circuit breakers are ROHS compliant. The NDB3-100 series of circuit breakers are screw mount. The NDB3-100 has a rated current from 1A to 100A, rated voltage AC230V/400V, DC80V, 1, 2 and 3 pole. The panel mount circuit breakers are available in the NDB3-30 series. The NDB3-30 has a rated current from 1A to 30A, rated voltage AC250V, DC80V.
