India to probe Chinese solar power equipment ‘dumping’

India has launched an investigation into the effect of Chinese-made solar power equipment is having on India’s solar power industry.

Authorities in India are the latest to allege that the “dumping” of cheaper solar energy gear onto their domestic markets has a destabilizing effect.

According to Bloomberg, the European Union and the United States both extended anti-dumping duties on imports this year. Turkey has also listed anti-dumping fees.

China is the biggest producer of solar power goods on earth, and India is China’s second most important market. Indian politicians have made residential rooftop solar a priority as a way to help the country meet its electricity needs.

According to the Indian Solar Manufacturers Association, China’s solar goods undercut prices in India by nearly 40 percent.
