MHPS establishes power generation division in Philippines

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems has created a new company focused on maintenance and renovation in the Filipino power generation market.

MHPS-Philippines Plant Services Corp. was established this month. Headquartered in Batangas, MHPS-PSC will begin operations with about 50 employees and build on the parent company’s contracts to provide equipment and services for both thermal and geothermal generation facilities in the nation.

MHPS (Philippines) will support MHPS-PSC by providing manufacturing and maintenance functions at its boiler factory, while also focusing on service projects outside the Philippines. MHPS will work closely with both companies while fully supporting their business activities, according to the company’s release.

The Philippines’ power generation sector totals more than 23,000 MW of installed capacity, more than 50 percent higher than it was a decade earlier, according to U.S. Department of Energy estimates. Coal, oil and natural gas fuel close to 67 percent of the installed capacity electricity mix.

MHPS was formed five years ago with the merger of the thermal power generation divisions of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi Ltd. It is focused on work for gas turbine combined cycle, steam and integrated coal gasification power plants, as well as boilers, generators, air quality systems and other power generation equipment.
