NRG Energy pledges $2 million for COVID-19 relief

NRG Energy this week pledged $2 million to COVID-19 relief efforts, with support directed to first responders, community relief funds and teachers. The company said it would be making charitable contributions, including cash and urgently needed safety equipment.

NRG’s community-based charitable actions will include:

  • Cash funding and in-kind contributions to first responders for needed supplies
  • Donations to community and small businesses relief funds in operable locations
  • Financial contributions to teachers via DonorsChoose.org

The company’s partnership with DonorsChoose enables employees to support public school teachers and contribute to the Keep Kids Learning program, which helps teachers in low-income communities send key resources to students now implementing at-home learning.

Additional funding will also be added to the NRG Employee Relief Fund, which is used to assist employees adversely impacted by extraordinary events.

“From the start of this pandemic, our priority has been to protect the health and safety of our employees, while also fulfilling our commitment to safely provide reliable electricity to our customers,” said NRG President and Chief Executive Officer Mauricio Gutierrez. “Now, we are expanding our focus to support those on the front lines who are providing crucial services to our communities, businesses and families.”

All frontline efforts aim to provide community support and NRG projects that its charitable giving arm, PositiveNRG and non-profit programs will aid in that goal.
