What is the value of energy storage on the electricity grid?

In the electric utility industry, energy storage is a very hot topic. It allows utilities to consider non-wires alternatives when planning for grid upgrades, it gives them flexible solutions through behind-the-meter applications and allows them to design virtual power plants via microgrids with short or long-duration energy storage. But have we figured out how best to compensate energy storage for all of the value it brings to the grid?

All of these topics, and more, will be up for discussion at next year’s DISTRIBUTECH International, set to take place February 9-11, 2021 in San Diego, California.

Energy Storage Track Chair, Julio Romero Aguero explains the energy storage hot topics of today and lays out what he sees as the future of the energy delivery space as it relates to energy storage.
