Strong winds knocked out power Wednesday to more than 160,000 utility customers across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula as severe weather stretched from Lake Michigan to Lake Huron.

Consumers Energy said outages were affecting more than 137,000 customers. DTE Energy said roughly 27,000 had no electricity at mid-afternoon, most of them in the Thumb region.

In western Michigan, Holland’s storm warning sirens blared before noon as winds topped 70 mph, the Ottawa County sheriff’s office said.
