First Choice Power brings home energy reporting to Texas

Irving, Texas, September 8, 2010 — First Choice Power has launched its Home Energy Reporting Program in Texas.

Previously proven to help customers in other markets save money on their electric bills, the program will be available exclusively to select First Choice Power customers across the state.

Participants will receive a personalized report designed to help them quickly understand how their home energy bill compares with similar-sized homes in their neighborhood, along with tips and overall recommendations on how they can save on their next bill. First Choice Power is the sole energy provider in Texas to offer this service.

Studies have demonstrated savings for recipients. Through the first year of this program, First Choice Power customers should save enough energy to power 10,000 Texas high school football games.

“We’re excited that our customers will be the first in Texas to receive the Home Energy Reports,” said Brian Hayduk, president of First Choice Power. “Showing Texans exactly how to lower their electric bill is not something most energy providers would be eager to do, but at First Choice Power, we believe in putting the customers’ needs first.”

To deliver the Home Energy Reports, First Choice Power has partnered with OPower, an industry leader in energy efficiency and smart grid software.

OPower’s software platform analyzes historical energy usage and provides customized reports with tips for each household on how to save. The information is delivered in easy-to-understand printed reports and through a user-friendly online portal, both designed to help consumers assess their level of consumption and, most importantly, what they can do to save.

So far, similar programs have delivered more than $15 million in total savings to consumers in California and Minnesota.
