Denver, CO, December 5, 2001 – MakeTheMove, the call center and online company targeting customers who are moving and the utility companies who serve them, announced today the 18-month anniversary of its Utility Connect program.
MakeTheMove’s Utility Connect program provides a comprehensive call center and online revenue-generating service for electric and gas utilities. MakeTheMove now counts 6 major U.S. utilities as partners of its call center service and over 30 major utilities as partners of its online service.
Utility Connect leverages the fact that approximately 80% of all movers first contact their electric or gas utility once a decision to move is made. During this initial contact, MakeTheMove’s highly-trained customer service representatives can set up a customer’s other home services such as telephone, cable and newspaper. MakeTheMove then shares revenues generated from these other service providers with the utility, thereby turning the utility’s call center into a profit center.
Customers can take advantage of this utility connection service either by calling their utility or by using the utility’s web site. MakeTheMove is the only company that can offer both a call center and online service today.
“We believe that both a comprehensive call center and an online capability are critical to the success of any utility connection program. For this reason, we decided 18 months ago to offer this bundled service to the utility industry,” said Mike McCabe, CEO of MakeTheMove.
MakeTheMove’s investors include Equifax, TMP Worldwide’s MonsterMoving.com division, Labrador Ventures and Scripps Ventures. Founded in 1998, MakeTheMove has established partnerships with over 140 of the country’s largest utility, telecommunication and media companies.
