Outage Notifications

Intergraph Outage Notifications provides utility customers with near real-time information about outages that affect their homes or businesses, enabling utilities to improve customer communication and better meet customer expectations. The application generates automated notifications to individual customers at the time an outage occurs, when updates to outage information such as projected restoration time or crew status are made and when power is restored. The system also features the ability to manage planned outages. The system follows the customer’s preference management for when they want to be notified and through what channels. The solution also integrates with social media so utilities can reach their entire customer base without the customer having to subscribe. Automating this work flow for large-scale outages enables the utility to focus on restoring power while the application automatically posts to social media based on changing conditions within the outage management system.

Software Defined Radios

Software Defined Radios

S&C Electric Company’s SpeedNet SDR Software Defined Radios combines S&C’s field-proven mesh-radio technology with the software-defined radio platform from XetaWave. The SpeedNet SDR will support UHF bands between 406 and 430 MHz and 450 and 470 MHz, and will be used in S&C’s self-healing distribution automation systems around the world. The SpeedNet SDR has received its FCC and IC certifications and CE conformity mark, allowing it to be used in smart grid applications wherever the UHF 400 MHz bands are available. Subsequent certifications for South Africa, South America and Central America are in the approval process. The SpeedNet SDR will be used where S&C’s SpeedNet 900 MHz mesh radio operations band is not available or when licensed frequencies are preferred by utility customers. The radio offers reliable Ethernet and serial connectivity, layer3 wireless mesh bridging and highly available mesh connectivity. The SpeedNet SDR has modulation levels up to 32QAM that provide the industry’s highest level of data throughput using licensed 12.5 KHz channels.

Distribution Grid Sensing, Monitoring

Distribution Grid Sensing, Monitoring

QinetiQ North America’s (QNA’s) LineWatch is an electric power distribution grid sensing and monitoring system. LineWatch monitors low- (600 V) and medium- (36 kV) voltage applications. It also measures fault detection, voltage and current to near revenue grade (.5 percent) levels of accuracy and other key power line conditions. This allows utilities to monitor and manage their networks remotely, delivering an immediate, positive effect on operating expenses and customer satisfaction. The “bird-on-a wire” LineWatch sensors do not require a neutral connection and are installed using a standard industry hot stick more quickly and safely than standard medium-voltage pole meters. This reduces deployment costs and overall total cost of ownership. LineWatch uses a Cisco-certified IPV6 mesh design and accommodates other communications protocols via an Ethernet port or dedicated Network Interface Card.
