Alstom Renewable Power was selected by Energias do Brazil, to supply all electromechanical equipment to Cachoeira Caldeiràƒ£o, a 220 MW hydro plant. Energias do Brazil is a unit of the Portuguese EDP Group, one of the largest operators in the European electricity sector,
Benefitting from a reservoir of around 50 square kilometers, it will be installed on the Araguari river, in Amapàƒ¡ State, in the northern region of Brazil. The plant should be fully operational in 2017.
As part of the contract, Alstom Grid will also supply equipment for the plant’s internal substation. Alstom’s share of the contract is worth about $131 million.
This new hydropower plant is part of PAC 2 — a Brazilian program for growth acceleration, which will improve the country’s power generation capacity.
Alstom will supply three bulb generation units, gates, balance of plant, hydromechanical and erection equipment. This will be produced in Brazil, where the Group has one of its largest industrial units to serve the Brazilian hydro market, as well as to export equipment abroad.
The hydromechanical and erection equipment will be produced in partnership with Bardella. The Cachoeira Caldeiràƒ£o hydropower plant will be connected to the national grid through the Ferreira Gomes substation, with a 10 kilometers long 230 kV transmission line.
