Babcock and Wilcox wins renewable energy contract in Finland

Charlotte, N.C., February 25, 2011 — The Babcock and Wilcox Co.’s Denmark unit won a $35 million contract with Finland-based EkoKem OY to supply key equipment for a 36 MW waste-to-energy, combined heat and power plant in Riihimaki, Finland.

B&W Volund will design, manufacture, deliver and construct the waste-to-energy plant‘s heat recovery boiler using B&W’s patented DynaGrate water-cooled combustion grate, burners, combustion air system, selective non-catalytic reduction system and other components.

Engineering is underway at B&W Volund’s Esbjerg, Denmark offices. The plant is scheduled for completion prior to commissioning in the fall of 2013.
