Dominion solar power projects come online in Indianapolis

Dominion has placed in service a group of solar energy projects in Marion County, Ind., that will generate up to 28.6 MW of electricity. This is the third solar power facility Dominion has placed in service this year.

Indy Solar I, II and III will provide electricity for Indianapolis Power and Light Company under a 15-year purchased power agreement. Two of the sites are southeast of Indianapolis, in Marion Township, and the third is southwest. All are on level farmland and forestland that is well suited for fixed-axis solar installations. Dominion acquired the projects in July from Sunrise Energy Ventures LLC, Minnetonka, Minnesota.

A 7.7 MW solar installation near Augusta, and a 5 MW facility at Somers, Connecticut also enter service in 2013.

Dominion is one of the nation’s largest producers and transporters of energy, with a portfolio of about 23,500 MW of generation. Dominion operates one of the nation’s largest natural gas storage systems and serves retail energy customers in 15 states.
