Expansion of Whitelee wind energy project in Scotland complete

Iberdrola, through its ScottishPower Renewables unit, has completed its upgrade of the Whitelee wind energy project in Scotland. The expansion, which used 75 Alstom wind turbines, boosts the wind farm’s generation capacity to 539 MW from a previous 539 MW.

Alstom installed 69 ECO 100 wind turbines, each with an output of 3 MW, and six ECO 74 wind turbines, each with an output of 1.6 MW. Alstom will also maintain the turbines.

The expansion cost about $260 million.
