Google invests in Silver Ridge Power’s Mount Signal Solar project

Internet giant Google Inc. partnered with Silver Ridge Solar (formerly AES Solar) on a 265.7 MW DC solar project. Google will invest about $103 million in the Mount Signal Solar project, also known as Imperial Valley Solar I, a solar photovoltaic facility being built in California’s Imperial County.

The project should enter commercial operation in 2014. San Diego Gas & Electric Co. (SDG&E) will buy renewable energy generated from the project under a long-term power purchase agreement.

Google has committed to an investment of more than $1 billion to renewable energy projects, with an eye toward 2 GW of capacity.

This is Google’s thirteenth renewable energy investment. In total, the company has committed over $1 billion to projects that will enable the generation of more than 2GW of electricity, enough to power over 500,000 homes.
