India’s solar power capacity surpasses 1 GW

New Delhi, July 30, 2012 — India’s installed on-grid solar capacity reached 1,030.66 MW at the end of June 2012, while off-grid solar systems of more than 1 kW hit 85.21 MW of combined capacity.

Total grid-connected renewable energy capacity surpassed 25,000 MW in June. Between April and June, India‘s first fiscal quarter, the country installed 495 MW of green power capacity, including 291.7 MW of wind.

For the fiscal year through March 2013, the Indian government seeks to install 4,125 MW of renewables. The goal includes 2,500 MW of wind and 800 MW of solar photovoltaics (PV).
