Mexico will invest $14 billion to build eight wind farms over the next three years, with a combined generation capacity of 2,300 MW.

The investment will come on the back of the $5 billion already injected into the wind energy sector, according to Business News Americas.

Mexico currently has 2,551 MW of installed wind capacity and will add 732 MW this year, with six wind farms under construction, according to the country’s wind energy association, Amdee.

Other projects to be completed this year are the 102 MW Sureste Fase II wind farm in the state of Oaxaca, along with the 50 MW Los Azufres III geothermal plant in Michoacán state, which will become operational this quarter, Sener said.
