Energy Control Product

Milbank, an industry leader in meter mounting equipment and enclosures, wind turbines and diesel generator sets for the U.S. market and Sentec, the smart grid experts, have a new energy control product, the integrated automatic transfer switch (I-ATS). The I-ATS is an integrated metrology, control, communications and protection solution that can manage electrical sources (e.g. wind turbines, solar PV, generator sets), storage solutions (e.g. battery storage, EVs) and loads (e.g. air conditioners, water heaters) at up to 200A per channel so that they work together. The system behaviour is controlled and reported through a custom user interface that is platform independent. The I-ATS provides a solution to the increasing number of problems seen when multiple devices that do not work together are put into a single installation. It is also capable of interfacing with the most common smart meter communications link (Zigbee SEP1.1).

Power Distribution Substation

The Magnalight MGS-DC-30KVA-480-220-110 heavy duty power distribution substation converts single phase or three phase 480 VAC electrical current to single phase 120V AC and 240V AC and provides GFCI and integral breaker protection on both input and line outs. This power substation provides an effective and safe current supply for operating equipment and lighting in areas where connection to native power is unavailable or not desired. This unit can be used to tap into 480 VAC from a variety of sources including generators and direct grid power, which it then steps down to usable voltages, and includes a dedicated 480 volt feed through for connecting a welding station.

Automatic Voltage Regulators

Staco Energy Products introduces its latest addition to their line of automatic voltage regulators (AVR) for the power conditioning in demanding applications. Based on a series regulation transformer controlled by variable transformers (VTs), these robust units offer tight output regulation and are easily customizable. The basic AVR will handle more than 90 percent of typical power problems–handling all but the most extreme voltage swings. Options such as suppression of high voltage transients, high harmonic content or site load balance can be added, providing site-specific power correction in a one-box solution. All Staco AVR units feature extremely high overload/inrush ratings. Gold plated contacts on all coils and nickel plated copper bus bars are standard. They are robust and durable enough to withstand the constant vibration of mobile applications. Individual coil protection means these proven units avoid catastrophic cascade failures which are common with other topologies.

Floor Ground Clamp

BURNDY, a manufacturer and provider of connector solutions to the industrial, energy, construction, telecommunication, petrochemical, data center, and transportation industries, introduces the SUPER-CLAMP, its newest raised floor pedestal ground connector. The GXP1828RF is a multi-functional, easy to install, range taking ground connector. This grounding clamp accepts an extensive range of pedestal types as well as conductors. The accepted pedestal range is 3/4″ through 2″, for use with either round and square styles (7/8″ to 2″ round; 3/4″ to 1-1/2″ square). The wire range is #6 solid to 4/0 stranded. The wires can be arranged in parallel or in a cross grid configuration and can accept 1 or 2 wires.

Station, Substation Transformers

Pacific Crest Transformers (PCT), a leader in the design and construction of liquid-filled distribution transformers, offers energy-efficient, customized padmount, station and substation transformers that save energy and lower costs. PCT’s efficient transformers have grown increasingly valuable as fuel costs continue to rise. The company customizes its transformers for a wide range of applications, specifically building them for hazardous, flammable or explosive environments. Available in ratings from 75 to 15000 kVA, PCT padmount, station and substation transformers are compact, as well as easy to install and maintain. They are designed for indoor and outdoor locations and are both tamper and corrosion proof.

Compatibility Verified

Landis+Gyr announced it has successfully verified compatibility of its Gridstream advanced metering solution with the RuggedMAX WiMAX wide area network from RuggedCom. This capability allows Gridstream customers to use the RuggedMAX solution to communicate with Gridstream data collectors. In the Gridstream solution, wide area networks are used to transport information between data collectors and head-end servers located at the utility or Landis+Gyr’s data center. RuggedMAX is a high power WiMAX base station that is ideally designed for data backhaul from advanced metering, distribution automation and SCADA systems. Operating in both the 3.65 GHz (FCC and IC) and 1.8 GHz (IC) spectra, RuggedMAX meets requirements in the United States and Canada for electric power applications. The Gridstream integration with WiMax represents the next step of delivering a multi-technology network to utilities.
