NextEra Energy to supply Google with wind power

Juno Beach, Fla., April 21, 2011 NextEra Energy Resources entered into a power purchase agreement with Google Energy LLC.

Google Energy will purchase 100.8 MW of wind energy from NextEra Energy Resources’ Minco II Wind Energy Center under development in Grady and Caddo counties in Oklahoma.

“We are thrilled to expand our relationship with Google Energy and appreciate their ongoing support of emission-free, renewable energy,” said Mike O’Sullivan, senior vice president of development for NextEra Energy Resources. “With the support of customers like Google Energy, we’ve built our wind fleet from fewer than 500 MW a decade ago to nearly 8,300 MW — the largest fleet in North America today.”

This is the second power purchase agreement for wind energy between the two companies. Google Energy also purchases 114 MW of renewable energy from NextEra Energy Resources’ Story II Wind Energy Center located in Story and Hardin counties in Iowa.

The Minco II Wind Energy Center will be comprised of 63 GE 1.6-MW wind turbines and is expected to be operational by the end of 2011.

NextEra Energy Resources is no stranger to Oklahoma. The company currently has more than 300 wind turbines in operation in Oklahoma with a nameplate capacity of nearly 550 MW. These wind turbines are capable of generating enough power to serve more than 137,000 average homes.

NextEra Energy Resources now has more than 9,500 wind turbines in operation at 85 wind farms in 17 states and Canada. All told, NextEra Energy Resources’ wind farms are capable of generating enough electricity for more than 2 million average homes.
