PennWell Corp. opens Brazil office

PennWell Corp., a diversified global media and information company, announced today the official opening of PennWell do Brasil Holdings Ltda. in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. PennWell do Brasil will most immediately support the upcoming co-located HydroVision Brasil, DistribuTECH Brasil and POWER-GEN Brasil events to be held September 24-26, 2013 at the Transamerica Expo Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Supported by Furnas as the Host Utility, the unique co-location of these power events provides the Brazilian energy market with an integrated international platform, offering valuable opportunities for information exchange, networking and new business development across the market sectors.

Robert F. Biolchini, president and CEO of PennWell, said, “The opening of PennWell do Brasil Ltda. solidifies PennWell’s ongoing commitment to providing our Brazilian and Latin American customers with the highest level of quality in content, customer service and support in the markets we serve. This highly-anticipated launch is critical to the growth of our electric power conferences and exhibitions in Brazil, as well as positions PennWell to continue to build our offerings of innovative information resources to this dynamic and ever-evolving region of the world.”

PennWell launched HydroVision Brasil in 2011, attracting more than 650 attendees in its first year. Addressing topics and issues impacting the advancement of the hydroelectric power industry in Brazil, HydroVision Brasil was joined by DistribuTECH Brasil last year, expanding coverage into the transmission and distribution market.

Attracting nearly 1,800 attendees in 2012, HydroVision Brasil and DistribuTECH Brasil will be joined by the launch of POWER-GEN Brasil in 2013. POWER-GEN Brasil is the eighth addition to the POWER-GEN global franchise, collectively attracting more than 55,000 attendees and 3,000 exhibitors from around the world. This trio of events will provide the Brazilian power industry with an unprecedented offering of information and networking opportunities across the market sectors.

“The launch of PennWell do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro signifies an important milestone in the continued growth of HydroVision Brasil, DistribuTECH Brasil and POWER-GEN Brasil. The momentum seen by these events thus far underscores the importance of such a platform to the industry and the acute international interest in the Brazilian market.

“Having a local Brazilian office will enable us to optimally support the energy industry in Brazil with local currency registration, logistical and invoicing capabilities. We look forward to the further development of these events with the local infrastructure that PennWell do Brasil provides,” said Mrs. Marla Barnes, Group Publisher of PennWell’s Hydro Group.

Joining major offices located around the world in Nashua, New Hampshire; Houston, Texas; London, England; Fairlawn, New Jersey; Moscow, Russia; and Hong Kong, China; PennWell do Brasil furthers PennWell’s strategic expansion in the global media marketplace and will specifically support PennWell’s rapidly expanding energy businesses in Brazil.

“With events located in many distinct global markets, PennWell understands that respecting and understanding the individual culture of each nation we are lucky enough to work in is critical. The establishment of PennWell do Brasil is consistent with that ethos and will ensure that the company’s offerings in Brasil and wider Latin America are closely attuned to the needs of the customers we wish to serve in these strategically vital markets,” said Mr. Glenn Ensor, Director of PennWell’s International Events.
