PG&E, NRG to build concentrating solar plant

Los Angeles, Calif., June 25, 2009 – Pacific Gas and Electric Co. agreed with NRG Energy to build a 92-MW solar power project.

Located near Lancaster, Calif., the Alpine SunTower project is slated for completion in 2012. The station will use eSolar’s concentrating solar thermal technology.

NRG has planned to invest $10 million in California-based eSolar to build up to 500 MW of solar power in the Southwest. NRG and eSolar have said they would build another 92 MW plant in New Mexico for El Paso Electric Co.
