Satcon selected by Q-Cells for solar plant in Ontario

Boston, October 7, 2011 — Satcon Technology Corp., a provider of utility-scale power conversion solutions for the renewable energy market, was selected by Q-Cells North America to supply an additional 40 MW of their Prism Platform solutions for the Starwood project in Sault St Marie, Ontario.

The Starwood projects are contracted under the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program developed and overseen by the Ontario Power Authority and will connect to local utility PUC Distribution, Inc. When completed, the projects will generate about 60 MW.

Q-Cells will deploy a combination of eight 1.25 MW Equinox Prism Platforms and twenty-four 1.25 MW Solstice Prism Platform solutions. Prism Platform is Satcon’s turnkey utility-grade multi-megawatt building block, complete with factory integrated step-up transformers, MV disconnect switches, and power conversion electronics.

The project builds on the success of Starwood SSM1, a 20 MW installation that came online in October 2010 and utilizes Satcon’s PowerGate Prism Platform solutions.
