SAN DIEGO, Sept. 22, 2003 — Sempra Energy announced that Javade Chaudhri will join the company Sept. 29, 2003, as executive vice president and general counsel, managing Sempra Energy’s legal affairs.
Previously, Chaudhri, 51, served as senior vice president and general counsel of San Diego-based Gateway, Inc. since 2001, managing the company’s legal affairs, government relations, contract administration and ethics. Prior to joining Gateway as deputy general counsel in 1999, Chaudhri was a senior partner in the Washington, D.C., office of the international law firm of Winston & Strawn, where he co-managed the international and technology practice groups. Previously, Chaudhri was a partner at the law firm Jones Day Reavis & Pogue.

Chaudhri has written and lectured widely on international infrastructure projects, technology, and commercial law. He has been a visiting faculty member for the International Development Law Organization in Rome and the International Law Institute in Washington, D.C.
Chaudhri succeeds John R. Light, who retired as Sempra Energy’s general counsel in June 2003.
Chaudhri holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Yale University and a law degree from Georgetown University.
