Telvent hires WindLogics to provide wind forecasts to utilities

Madrid, February 3, 2011 — Telvent is partnering with WindLogics to offer accurate wind power forecasts to utility markets worldwide.

Telvent already provides load forecasting to utilities with temperature forecasts, but with this partnership, Telvent will be able to help utilities maximize their power supply anywhere in the world.

This collaboration comes at a critical time: As wind power becomes a larger part of generation portfolios, it is even more important for utilities to rely on accurate data to understand how much power can be expected from wind sources and how weather conditions may affect operations.

With this new offering, called Wind Power Forecasts from WindLogics, utility customers receive the most accurate predictions available from proprietary forecasting technology. Using this critical information, utilities can better maintain system reliability and efficiently integrate wind power into their mix, thereby minimizing costs associated with variable sources.

According to Telvent’s CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “Utilities need a way to accurately predict the amount of power that will be generated from wind sources. The partnership between Telvent and WindLogics creates a best-in-the-market offering that will further help utilities run as efficiently as possible and expands our suite of smart grid solutions for our customers.”

As part of the agreement, Telvent will be the exclusive provider of WindLogics’ forecasts to utilities in North America, distributing forecasts with its robust delivery system. Expansion to utilities in other global markets is also planned. WindLogics will continue to directly serve owners, operators and other wind energy market segments.
