Tesla Gigafactory to produce ventilators “as soon as humanly possible”

According to CEO Elon MuskTesla’s New York Gigafactory is set to re-open, and will start producing ventilators “as soon as humanly possible” to combat the shortage of the life-saving devices in the state.

Musk wrote on Twitter:

The tweet comes after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio appealed for Musk’s help.

The news follows a commitment made by Musk on 19 March, offering to re-purpose Tesla’s facilities to produce ventilators. The billionaire entrepreneur had faced severe criticism after expressing cynicism over the severity of the worldwide pandemic, and resisting the shutting down of its California manufacturing facility.
