The Liberty Bell goes ‘green’

Sept. 16, 2002 — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Christie Whitman joined Green Mountain Energy Company, the National Park Service, and others at a press conference near Independence Hall in Philadelphia Friday to hail America’s only national landmark being powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

The Green Mountain Energy(SM) electricity being purchased under a new contract will help avoid more than 640 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

The electricity is generated from wind, solar, biomass and water resources.
