Toshiba supplying hydropower generators in Colombia

Tokyo, February 19, 2010 — Toshiba International, signed a contract to supply three 324MVA hydroelectric generators to Isagen, a Colombian power generation company, in partnership with Mitsui Plant Systems.

The generators will be installed at the Sogamoso hydropower plant in Santander state.

Toshiba, a developer and supplier of hydroelectric generator technology, has already supplied a total of 35 generators to Colombia.

The Columbian power market is expected to see a 3,000 MW increase in generating capacity over the next decade, driven by strong economic growth.

To support execution of the Sogamoso project and to seek to secure further orders for hydropower business, Toshiba International (TIC) opened a new office in Colombia this January, Toshiba said.

The new units will arrive on site at Sogamoso by January 2012. The plant will reportedly be commissioned by the end of 2013.

Toshiba said that it aims to secure further contracts and to enhance its business in key markets with strong demand for hydropower systems.
