Venezuela wind energy project nears final stage

Venezuela’s Paraguanàƒ¡ wind power project received components for its last 22 wind turbines, according to a release from state oil firm PDVSA.

Located near the Paraguanàƒ¡ refinery complex in Falcàƒ³n state, the wind power project is expected to deliver 100 MW of capacity to power the neighboring oil refinery.

Spanish firm Gamesa is developing the project and has already installed 54 of the wind park’s 76 planned turbines.

The project began generating in December 2012 and since then has saved the Paraguanàƒ¡ refinery complex about $36.3 million by substituting renewable energy for diesel-fired generation, PDVSA said.
