Westar Energy to buy 200 MW in wind energy

Westar Energy reached a deal to buy 200 MW in wind power capacity from an Apex Clean Energy wind farm under development in northern Oklahoma.

The project, which is being build about 6 miles south of Arkansas City, Kansas, will start construction in 2015 with the target date of completion coming in 2016.

Financial details on the deal were not disclosed.

Westar, which has its headquarters to Topeka, Kansas, provides electric service to nearly 700,000 Kansans.
