Babcock & Wilcox secures 10-year wet electrostatic precipitator license

Aug. 8, 2003 — The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) recently signed a 10-year wet electrostatic precipitator (WESP) license with F.L. Smidth Airtech Inc. (FLS-AT).

This license grants B&W the right to sell, engineer, design, manufacture, construct, startup and service FLS-AT vertical and horizontal flow WESPs for large electric utility power plants. The WESP equipment can be installed as part of new or retrofit wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) systems or as an upgrade to existing WFGD systems. WESPs can be integrated into a WFGD tower or stand-alone.

This state-of-the-art technology removes ultra-fine particles, including sulfuric acid fume, which significantly reduces the potential “blue plume” from coal-fired power plants equipped with WFGD systems. B&W/FLS-AT WESPs are currently being installed to service 1000 megawatts of generation in Canada.

The licensing agreement provides B&W with exclusive technology rights for FLS-AT WESPs for all of North America and non-exclusive rights worldwide. B&W/FLS-AT WESP systems can be applied to WFGD systems supplied by B&W as well as WFGD systems provided by others.
