Ericsson’s service will cover the over 400,000 existing Echelon smart meters, providing new features including the ability to remotely upgrade the meters with new meter functionality and to monitor network conditions to prevent and predict outages. These network upgrades improve overall reliability and safety of the E.ON grid.
E.ON, part of one of the largest private energy companies in the world, choose Ericsson to provide the hosted solution, which will gather data from Echelon’s smart meters and provide collected data to E.ON’s internal IT environment. Data will be exported daily rather than monthly, increasing data delivery by 3,000 percent. Ericsson will also provide E.ON with related field services including consulting and systems integration.
