Four utilities join social energy app

Dec. 7, 2011 — Opower today announced four new utilities have joined its social application being developed with Facebook and the National Resources Defense Council. In Minnesota, they are: Austin Utilities, Owatonna Public Utilities and Rochester Public Utilities. Also joining in from Colorado is Loveland Water & Power.

The Opower social energy app will enable customers to compare their energy use with friends and compete in savings challenges. It will also include helpful energy-saving tips and will be a place to connect with others to discuss ways that they might be able to cut back on their daily energy use. Customers of these utilities will be able to choose to participate in the app and get up-and-running quickly once it goes live early next year.
