Stephen L. Baum, vice chairman, president and CEO of Sempra Energy has been appointed chairman. Baum succeeds former chairman Richard D. Farman, who has retired from the company. Baum has served as Sempra Energy’s CEO since June. Previously, he was vice chairman, president, chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors of Sempra since 1998 (when it was formed by the merger of Enova Corp. and Pacific Enterprises).

Edwin A. Guiles has been named group president of Sempra Energy’s regulated business units and chairman of both San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) and Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas). Guiles succeeds Warren Mitchell, who retired in July as group president of both utilities. Previously, Guiles served as president of SDG&E since 1998. He also holds the position of president of SoCalGas’ energy distribution services unit.

Sempra also named Debra L. Reed president of SDG&E. Reed formerly served as president of SoCalGas’ energy distribution services unit since July 1998.

Anne F. Appleby has joined Oglethorpe Power Corp. as vice president, finance. Prior to joining Oglethorpe, Appleby served as senior vice president, credit products, for Bank of America.

Patricia Enggaard Betz has joined Shell Energy as marketing director of the residential electricity and natural gas business. Betz has worked with Procter & Gamble and Hershey’s Foods, and she helped launch the mc2 retail energy business initiative of MidCon Corp.

Pacific Gas & Electric elected Anlin Ting-Mason as vice president for Internet and business development for the utility. Ting-Mason joined PG&E in May. Most recently, she served as general manger of Internet services at London’s British Telecom.

Dominion Resources Inc. has named Steven A. Rogers vice president and controller. Rogers joined Dominion in 1996 as manager-internal audit; he was named vice president and controller of OptaCor Financial Services in 1997 and corporate controller of Dominion in 1998.

NRG Energy Inc. has elected James J. Howard, Wayne H. Brunetti and Richard C. Kelly to its board of directors. Howard is chairman, president and CEO of Northern State Power Co. (NSP), NRG’s majority shareholder. Brunetti is chairman, president and CEO of New Century Energies (NCE), NSP’s merger partner. Kelly is executive vice president of financial and support services and chief financial officer of NCE.

Sierra Pacific Resources named Jeffrey L. Ceccarelli as the new president of its utility subsidiary, Sierra Pacific Power Co. Ceccarelli has held management positions in engineering, construction and customer service at Sierra Pacific Power. The board of directors also named Steve Oldman as senior vice president for corporate development and strategic planning for Sierra Pacific Resources. Oldman was most recently vice president of corporate development and strategic planning.

Energy Marketers

Chuck Henry has joined Enermetrix as president and chief operating officer. Co-founder Jeff DeWeese, formerly president and chief operating officer, will assume the role of vice chairman. Prior to joining Enermetrix, Henry was president and chief operating officer of the Chicago Board Options Exchange.

USPowerSolutions has elected Bill Southworth to its board of directors. Southworth founded HarvardNet, the leading data CLEC in New England and served as chairman and CEO until early this year.

Vicki G. Sandler has been named president of APS Energy Services. APS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pinnacle West. Sandler has served as vice president and managing director of APS Energy Services since its inception at the beginning of 1999.


ASCO Power Technologies has appointed Donald K. Blackman to the position of vice president, marketing and strategic business development. Blackman has spent more than 23 years with ASCO and was most recently the company’s vice president, strategic business development.


Paul Crilly has joined Global Thermoelectric Inc., a Calgary-based developer of solid oxide fuel cell technology, as vice president and chief financial officer.

Hydrogen Burner Technology Inc., a manufacturer of on-site hydrogen generators and integrated fuel processors for fuel cell applications, has named Michael K. Burke to the position of chief financial officer. Previously, Burke served as managing director of the U.S. investment banking department of CIBC Oppenheimer Corp. in New York. n
