DistribuTECH Africa invites speakers for 2013 conference

The DistribuTECH Africa Advisory Board is now accepting abstracts from potential speakers for the inaugural DistribuTECH Africa 2013 conference to be held from 30 October — 1 November 2013 at the Sandton Convention in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa.

Following on from the success of DistribuTECH in North America and Brazil which in total attracted over 10,000 visitors, 500 exhibiting companies and 200 speakers, DistribuTECH Africa 2013 conference and exhibition is set to become the most important power and water related conference and exhibition for meeting major players in the African and international transmission and distribution sector and learning about the latest technologies.

Grid connection across Africa is inconsistent with an average of 20 percent connection across the continent. Strong economic growth is driving power demand but the inability of utilities to guarantee reliable power supplies is acting as a constraint on further growth and is hampering investment in vital energy intensive sectors like mining.

Within the area of transmission and distribution, utilities face a multitude of challenges such as coping with high loss levels, collecting revenues, managing demand, uneconomic tariffs and coping with narrow reserve margins.

DistribuTECH Africa 2013 provides the ideal opportunity for expert speakers from around the world to debate these important issues with senior management and professionals from utilities, regulatory and service provider companies as well as present the latest trends and technological advancements and developments.

The DistribuTECH Africa Event Director, Nigel Blackaby, said, “We are delighted to present the first DistribuTECH Africa conference and exhibition at a time when the region is experiencing an alarming shortfall of energy yet offers huge potential for development. We anticipate high caliber submissions from leading experts in the field to formulate an informative and high-quality conference program which ultimately becomes the region’s foremost platform for exchanging ideas and information with strategists, technical experts and leading organizations.”

The main focus of the event will be innovation and technology under the theme “Equipping Utilities for the Future” with more than 60 strategic and technical topics on offer which fall under four broad headings: Power and Water Delivery, Metering, System Automation and System Operation.

Among the proposed topics are Power Reliability and Quality, Demand Response and Energy Efficiency, Revenue Protection for Utilities, Decentralized and Distributed Generation, Pilot Project Case Studies — Shared Lessons, Energy Storage for Grid Stability, Interoperability-Grid Automation Standards, Enterprise Information Management & Mobility Solutions and Renewable Energy Integration.

Industry experts are invited to submit their abstract online at www.distributechafrica.com for consideration by the Advisory Board by Friday 8 February 2013.
