Ecova: New Insights into the Small Business Market

Ecova collaborated with Zpryme on this report and surveyed more than 1,000 business customers. Sixty percent of small business respondents look first to their local utility for advice on efficiency efforts, according to the survey.

More than three-fourths (77 percent) of medium to large businesses replied that energy efficiency and management were high priorities within their organizations, while 51 percent of small businesses said the same thing.


The most popular first step for small businesses trying to reduce energy consumption is upgrading to ENERGY STAR products (65 percent), which demonstrates the pervasiveness of the brand in the market. Other popular technologies for reducing energy consumption include smart thermostats (45 percent), smart lighting (40 percent) and advanced power strips (34 percent).
