EPA evaluates renewable energy potential of 66,000 contaminated sites

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued an order that would allow the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) to hold monthly auctions for financial transmission rights starting in October.

Although MISO currently holds monthly and annual transmission rights auctions, market participants have been encouraging the operator to develop multi-period monthly auctions.

The auctions will allow participants to hedge day-ahead transmission congestion risk for the balance of the current planning period, according to Power Engineering.

MISO officials said at a July transmission rights task force meeting they plan to hold the first multi-period auction in October, which will include transmission rights periods covering November, January and February. Multi-period monthly auctions will only be available after the November partial year transmission rights allocation for the southern region in the process of integrating into MISO.
