FirstEnergy names new vice president, chief accounting officer

FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) announced that Jon Taylor, vice president and assistant controller, has been named the company’s vice president, controller and chief accounting officer, effective May 1, 2013. He succeeds Harvey L. Wagner, who has elected to retire.

In his new role, Taylor will have responsibility for the accounting, tax, and financial reporting activities of FirstEnergy and its subsidiaries. He will report to James F. Pearson, senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Taylor began his career with FirstEnergy in 2009 as manager of financial reporting and technical accounting. He was promoted to assistant controller of FirstEnergy Utilities in 2010 and to assistant controller for FirstEnergy Solutions and FirstEnergy Generation in 2012.

He was named to his current position in October 2012. Before joining FirstEnergy, Taylor worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP for 13 years.

“Jon’s experience on both the regulated and competitive sides of our business, along with his years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, will help ensure a smooth transition in this key role,” said FirstEnergy President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony J. Alexander.

Taylor graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned a Master of Accounting degree from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a licensed certified public accountant in Ohio and Alabama. He is a board member of the Development Finance Authority of Summit County — an Ohio Port Authority.

Wagner joined Ohio Edison in 1974 and served in various accounting positions before being named comptroller of Ohio Edison in 1990. Wagner was elected controller and chief accounting officer of FirstEnergy in 1997, the year Ohio Edison and Centerior Energy merged to form FirstEnergy Corp. In 2001, he was named vice president and controller. He was appointed to his current position in 2003.

Wagner earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Grove City College and a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Akron. He also completed the Duke University Advanced Management Program.
