Former FERC managing attorney joins national energy law practice

WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 20, 2001 – Brian R. Gish, formerly a managing attorney in the Office of General Counsel at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), has joined Davis Wright Tremaine’s Washington, D.C. office.

Gish brings to DWT more than 20 years’ experience dealing with a wide variety of energy issues as a practitioner with major Washington, D.C. law firms, and in positions of responsibility with FERC. Gish focuses his practice on energy regulation, with emphasis on the Federal regulation of electric transmission and sales, regional transmission organizations and other matters within the jurisdiction of FERC.

While at FERC, Gish drafted and supervised a group of attorneys responsible for drafting FERC orders on electric matters, such as market-based rates, transmission issues, mergers, and generally participated in advising the Commissioners. He also served as team leader of the staff team that drafted FERC’s Order No. 2000 on Regional Transmission Organizations.

“The addition of Brian Gish perfectly complements our existing areas of substantive energy expertise. Transmission is going to continue to be a hot growth area for energy lawyers, both regionally and nationally, and with the arrival of Brian, we can offer clients the services of truly one of the nation’s experts on transmission,” said Steve Greenwald, chairman of DWT’s energy practice.

In January 2000, Gish received FERC’s Chairman’s Award for his work on Order No. 2000. He is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia and the Energy Bar Association and is admitted to practice before various appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. Gish received his J.D., with high honors, from The National Law Center, George Washington University.

DWT’s energy group presently consists of 26 attorneys based in D.C., San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles and Anchorage. DWT is a full service business and litigation law firm, with national practices in the areas of energy, employment and labor law, healthcare law, communications and media law, intellectual property, business transactions, and litigation. The firm has more than 410 attorneys in its 10 offices located throughout the Pacific Northwest, and in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Washington D.C., Honolulu, and Shanghai, China.
