Gas-electric interdependency

In its continuing efforts to demonstrate leadership in evaluating emerging trends that potentially impact overall reliability of the bulk power system, the North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC) released the “2013 Special Reliability Assessment – Accommodating an Increased Dependence on Natural Gas for Electric Power.”

The electricity sector’s growing reliance on natural gas-fired generation raises concerns regarding the ability to maintain electric system reliability when the capacity to deliver natural gas supplies to power generators is constrained. The report focuses on evaluating across the electricity and natural gas sectors the potential risks and identifying recommendations to address this growing interdependency.
