GridLiance announces that Douglas C. Collins has joined the company as president of GridLiance’s Midcontinent Independent System Operator Region.
Based in Kansas City, Missouri, Collins oversees the company’s regional business development activities in Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Wisconsin, including establishing new partnerships with municipal, cooperative and joint action agency utilities; sourcing transmission asset acquisitions; and recruiting top business development talent.
Collins brings more than 30 years of electric utility industry experience, starting at Interstate Power Company and its successor Alliant Energy, where he served as general manager of system planning. While at Alliant, Collins was responsible for distribution and transmission planning as well as the reliability dispatch. He was instrumental in the sale of the Alliant Energy transmission assets to ITC Midwest, and upon the consummation of the transaction, became the executive director and later the president of ITC Midwest.
“Doug’s deep industry knowledge and expertise in addressing and removing transmission constraints is a great addition to GridLiance and will provide tremendous value to our partners,” said Ed Rahill, president and CEO of GridLiance. “As we seek opportunities to collaborate with public and coop power utilities across the MISO territory to help solve their transmission problems, Doug will be instrumental in bridging the relationships and expanding our network of partners.”
“I am pleased to be a part of a company that is dedicated to partnering with public power and coops to answer their transmission problems,” said Collins. “I look forward to working with our current and future partners to help them better understand the specific and industrywide transmission challenges they face; and how GridLiance’s unique business model allows us to deliver a customized solution that will meet their individual needs.”
Collins has also held numerous leadership positions within the Midcontinent Area Power Pool, Mid-American Interconnected Network and MISO, including chair of the MISO Transmission Owners Committee and vice chair of the Advisory Committee. Collins earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.
Incorporated in 2014, GridLiance is an independent transmission company singularly focused on addressing public and coop power’s unmet local reliability needs and desire for RTO transmission investment opportunities
