The Hawthorn Group LLC, an international public affairs firm that provides strategic communications advice to investor-owned utilities and other regulated industries, including Fortune 500 corporations and national trade associations, today announced that Suzanne Hammelman has been appointed president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.
“Suzanne’s new role reflects the incredible results she has accomplished for Hawthorn and more importantly the success achieved for multiple clients over more than two decades of sterling work. Nobody is more deserving or eminently qualified for her new leadership position. As an innovator and strategist, Suzanne is absolutely relentless in her quest to meet our clients’ public policy and business goals,” said Hawthorn CEO and Chairman John Ashford in a statement.
Hammelman, previously Hawthorn’s chief client officer, is one of the original partners that established the independently owned firm in 1991. She has created and managed numerous successful multi-state issue advocacy campaigns and is a recognized expert on highly-targeted, cost-effective grassroots programs.
“I am privileged and excited to assume my new position at Hawthorn and greatly appreciate the trust and confidence that John has in me,” Hammelman said. “John has put together an incredibly talented and committed team of professionals dedicated to our clients’ success. I see this as an opportunity to enhance our renowned client service while continuing to grow our energy and other practice areas,” Hammelman added.
Before joining Hawthorn, Hammelman headed her own public affairs firm, served as political director for the National Association of Homebuilders and earlier worked in the U.S. Senate. An Indiana native, Hammelman graduated from George Washington University.
