Luminant decides not to pursue new nuclear reactors

Energy Future Holdings Corp. power generation unit Luminant is ending its efforts to gain approval to build a pair of new nuclear reactors in Texas.

The decision stems from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ choice to focus on the restart of the Japanese nuclear fleet instead of U.S. nuclear energy development, Luminant officials told the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Since 2008, Luminant has been seeking to build new reactors at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant. Luminant planned to use Mitsubishi advanced pressurized water reactor technology.
