He began service Jan. 1 as part of a new slate of officers chosen by Wires members during their annual meeting in Washington, D.C, last fall.
Flynn, who joined National Grid in 2014, has overall responsibility for U.S. business development in the electric and gas sectors at National Grid. He served as president-elect of Wires during 2014 and as vice president in 2013. Flynn succeeds Phillip C. Grigsby, senior vice president of commercial transmission at Duke Energy.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as president of Wires for 2015,” Flynn said. “Wires has played, and will continue to play, an important role in the development of energy policies that recognize the critical role of the nation’s transmission grid to security, reliability and the economically efficient delivery of electricity. As we continue to see a sweeping transformation of the nation’s electric generation portfolio — with the retirement of a large portion of our baseload facilities and a continued a focus on more renewable energy — transmission will play a more important role than at any time in our history.”
Chosen as president-elect to serve as the group’s leader in 2016 was Steven Burtch, senior vice president of business development at AltaLink, a Berkshire Hathaway Energy company. Burtch was Wires’ vice president during 2014 and was secretary for 2013.
Wires’ new vice president is Bob McKee, manager of regulatory relations and policy at American Transmission Co. Elected to serve as treasurer was Kathy Shea, vice president of transmission project development at Northeast Utilities. Chosen to serve a third term as treasurer was Gerald Deaver of CapX2020, who earlier served as secretary for 2011-2012.
Outgoing President Grigsby was elected to the Wires board, where he will serve with holdover members: Lisa M. Barton, executive vice president of AEP transmission; and former Wires presidents Don J. Clevenger, senior vice president of external affairs at Oncor Electric Delivery, and Will Kaul, vice president of transmission at Great River Energy/CapX2020.
