Electric Light & Power has named Joseph M. Rigby, chairman, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings, Inc., as CEO of the Year for his strong leadership on cybersecurity measures on behalf of PHI’s customers, employees, stakeholders and our nation’s capital.
Rigby will accept his award Jan. 27 in San Diego, Calif., during the fourth annual Electric Light & Power Executive Conference. Also being honored that evening are Navajo Tribal Utility Authority general manager Walter W. Haase and electric utility Southern Co.
“I am extremely humbled by this recognition,” Rigby said. “We take our role in providing reliable service to our customers as our top priority alongside safety. Only through robust public-private information sharing can we ensure, to the greatest extent possible, that our electric systems are protected — and that we can be resilient. We stand ready to be an active participant in the federal legislative, state and regulatory process, and we will continue to stay focused on meeting our customers’ expectations.”
Rigby won in the Large Utility CEO of the Year division, open to North American electric utilities with 400,000 customers or more. Haase won in the Small Utility CEO of the Year division, open to North American electric utilities with fewer than 400,000 customers. Southern Co. was named the No. 1 electric utility in North America.
“Mr. Rigby has taken innumerable measures against cybersecurity threats against the electric grid in the nation’s capital, and Mr. Haase has made electricity available to members of the Navajo Nation who had been living without it,” said Teresa Hansen, Electric Light & Power editor in chief. “These leaders should not only be recognized for their ingenuity but also imitated throughout the electric industry. They’re protecting lives and providing a better quality of life for Americans.”
A feature article on both Rigby and Haase will appear in the January-February issue of Electric Light & Power magazine.
