SDG&E will host Solar POWER-GEN

PennWell Corporation is pleased to announce that San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will serve as the Host Utility for Pennwell’s Solar POWER-GEN Conference & Exhibition, set to take place February 13-15, 2013.

Now in its second year, Solar POWER-GEN offers an educational conference and exhibition that is focused entirely on large-scale solar power. With over 100 industry specialists involved in 19 sessions, you’ll walk away with the ideas, insights and solutions to enhance how you do your job.

As a leading utility, SDG&E is a wonderful compliment to the show.

“PennWell is extremely pleased to have a well regarded organization such as San Diego Gas & Electric as the Host Utility of Solar POWER-GEN. They are a leader in the solar market and a perfect fit for an up and coming event such as Solar POWER-GEN. The future looks bright with this collaboration,” said Richard Baker, Senior Vice President of the Power Generation Group at PennWell Corporation.

Solar POWER-GEN is delighted to have such a preeminent leader in quality, service and innovation supporting the event. As the host utility, SDG&E will receive an unlimited amount of conference registrations and currently plans to send dozens of employees to the event.

In 2011, SDG&E signed 17 new power contracts with mostly solar and wind energy sources, representing 1,482 MW of capacity. These contracts put SDG&E in a position to maintain California’s 20 percent renewable portfolio requirements in the 2011 to 2013 time frame and achieve the 25 percent renewable power requirement by 2016. SDG&E is on track to meet the state’s mandate that 33 percent of its retail sales be produced from renewable energy projects by 2020.

On Wednesday, February 13, 2013 Solar POWER-GEN will bring together five industry experts to discuss collaboration between solar companies and the utility industry as part of its keynote session. The speakers include Julia Hamm, CEO of the Solar Electric Power Association, which works within the two industries in order to facilitate win-win business plans and technical solutions to these challenges.

Jim Waring, Executive Director of CleanTech San Diego, will discuss how the industry will evolve as California moves forward and addresses regulatory and system-wide economic challenges of non-islanded distributed generation systems. David Field, CEO of OneRoof Energy will discuss the solar leasing space – one of the fastest growing sectors of the solar industry today.

Clark Crawford, VP with Soitec Solar, will offer the solar manufacturer perspective. Finally, Matt Burkhart of San Diego Gas & Electric Company will discuss the utility’s role in making solar power a win-win business opportunity for both the solar and the utility industry.
