Babcock & Wilcox chooses Intergraph technology to run power plants

Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group Inc. (B&W PGG), a unit of The Babcock & Wilcox Co., chose Intergraph’s SmartPlant Enterprise as its strategic plant design suite for its boiler and environmental businesses.

B&W PGG, which engineers, procures, manufactures and constructs steam-generating systems and environmental systems for its utility and industrial customers, is now in production with SmartPlant Enterprise to support growth and competitiveness, ensure improved quality and productivity and reduce costs.

B&W PGG decided on SmartPlant Enterprise following a two-year evaluation of its legacy tools measured against Intergraph’s technology.

B&W PGG will use Intergraph’s SmartPlant Enterprise, including SmartPlant 3D Materials Handling Edition, SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Foundation and SmartPlant P&ID, as well the SmartPlant Reference Data management environment and Standard Database for SmartPlant Reference Data.

Intergraph’s SmartPlant Enterprise offers a portfolio of design and data management solutions, enabling companies in the power industry to capture integrated engineering knowledge at the enterprise level. SmartPlant Enterprise’s can improve engineering efficiency by up to 30 percent.

Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., B&W has locations worldwide and employs about 12,700 people, in addition to about 10,400 joint venture employees.

Intergraph provides engineering software for the design, construction, operation and data management of plants, ships and offshore facilities.
