Bechtel wins nuclear power plant contract

Bechtel won a contract to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for replacing three steam generators at Unit 2 of FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co.’s (FENOC) Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station in Shippingport, Pennsylvania. Bechtel replaced three steam generators at Beaver Valley Unit 1 in 2006.

The Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station provides power to nearly a million homes. Almost half of the power is produced by Unit 2, a pressurized water reactor generating 904 MW of electricity. Engineering work on the project will begin immediately with full site mobilization in late 2016 and generator replacement in March 2017.

In addition to work at the Beaver Valley facility, Bechtel is currently replacing steam generators at FENOC’s Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Ohio. Steam generators function as heat exchangers to produce the superheated steam that is used to drive the turbine generator in a pressurized water reactor.

Bechtel has served the nuclear power market for more than 60 years, providing in excess of 74,000 MW of nuclear design, construction, and operating plant support experience to more than 150 nuclear power plants worldwide.
