Board names Protsch senior executive vice president and CFO of Alliant Energy Corp.

MADISON, Wis., Dec. 1, 2003 — Alliant Energy Corp. announced that its Board of Directors has elected Eliot G. Protsch, 50, to serve as senior executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective January 2004.

“After conducting an extensive external search for a new CFO, frankly it was very gratifying to confirm the best candidate was already a part of our management team,” said Erroll B. Davis, Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer of Alliant Energy Corporation. “With the exceptional performance he has delivered since taking on the interim role in August and his strong financial background, the Board and I are fortunate that Eliot has agreed to accept an even greater leadership role at Alliant Energy.”

Protsch will continue to serve as President of Interstate Power and Light Company and will maintain offices in both Cedar Rapids and Madison.

“I am encouraged by the progress we have made in successfully executing our plans to improve our financial strength over the past year,” said Protsch. “I look forward to the opportunity to build on that positive momentum in 2004 and in the years to come.”
