Chesapeake Utilities Corp. promotes Beth W. Cooper to corporate treasurer

DOVER, Del., July 15, 2003 — John R. Schimkaitis, President and CEO of Chesapeake Utilities Corp., a diversified utility company headquartered in Dover, DE, announced that Beth W. Cooper has been appointed by the company’s Board of Directors to the position of Corporate Treasurer, effective July 11, 2003.

“We are excited to announce Cooper’s promotion to Corporate Treasurer,” said Mr. Schimkaitis. “Her leadership abilities, education and experience have well prepared her for this role, and her dedication to Chesapeake has been proven many times during her 13-year career with the company,” he added.

Cooper has more than seven years of experience in the role as Assistant Treasurer, where she assisted in the completion of several acquisitions, long-term debt financings, broker and analyst presentations, as well as provided oversight of the company’s investor relations function and on an interim basis, the financial management of the company’s water business.

Cooper joined Chesapeake in 1990 and has been serving in the position of Assistant Treasurer and Assistant Secretary since 1997. Prior to her promotion, she has held the positions of Director of Internal Audit, Director of Strategic Planning, Planning Consultant, Accounting Manager for Non- regulated Operations and Treasury Analyst.

Before joining Chesapeake, Cooper was employed as an Auditor with Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneurial Services Group. Cooper received her Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Salisbury State University (now Salisbury University), and then earned her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Delaware in 1997.

She is also a Certified Public Accountant. In 1992, Cooper was named Chesapeake’s Employee of the Year.

In her new role, Cooper will oversee the company’s financing, investor relations and treasury functions. She will be interacting on a regular basis with the company’s lenders, investors, members of the financial community and the company’s other financial business partners.
