Ground broken on 309 MW Delaware gas plant

State officials and management from Calpine Corp. celebrated the groundbreaking of the Garrison Oak Technology Park in Dover, Delaware, a 309 MW natural gas-fired power plant.

The power plant is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2015. Calpine Corp., which is building the plant, opened a regional headquarters in Delaware in 2010.

A $2.5 million grant from the New Jobs Infrastructure Fund will help fund the construction of a six-mile natural gas pipeline extension to the Garrison Oak Technology Park. In addition to providing fuel to the plant, this pipeline will help foster development of other businesses in the park and improve the availability of natural gas for other businesses and consumers in central Delaware.

Calpine Corp. generates electric power from a fleet of 93 power plants in operation or under construction, representing more than 27,000 MW of generation capacity.
