Kudankulam nuclear Unit 2 soon to be commissioned

The second 1,000 MW unit at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in India will be commissioned soon. The power plant is located in the extreme southern tip of India in the Tamil Nadu state.


A government official was quoted as saying in The Hindu that the unit will be commissioned shortly. Another official with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai said in June that the reactor could be operational by year-end.

The 1,000 MW Unit 1 was commissioned in October reached full power in June. The plant’s light water reactors are supplied by Russia’s Atomstroyexport.
